Proven Leadership vs. Empty Rhetoric: A Morning of Civic Engagement at Fremont Ross

The Performing Arts Center at Fremont Ross High School was the stage for a morning of sharp contrasts this week. As the home of the "Little Giants," the school provided a fitting backdrop for the Sandusky Register’s debate series, sponsored by the Greater Sandusky Partnership. The event offered a masterclass in the difference between substantive governance and political posturing.

The true highlight of the morning was the student body. The questions posed by the Fremont Ross students were sophisticated, covering complex topics ranging from the rise of artificial intelligence and data center regulation to school safety and economic policy. These young citizens demonstrated a level of maturity and engagement that proves the next generation is ready to hold their leaders accountable.

Throughout the debate, Representative Gary Click consistently challenged the students to move beyond surface-level talking points. He repeatedly called for "critical thinking," urging the audience to look past campaign promises and examine the actual legislative records of the candidates.

"You should look at what we both have done," Click told the students, emphasizing that voters must evaluate candidates based on their track record rather than just their rhetoric.

Representative Click practiced what he preached. He arrived with a resume defined by tangible results, citing specific legislative achievements such as House Bill 646 to regulate data centers, House Bill 1011 to pause the deployment of Flock surveillance cameras, and his bipartisan work on the "benefits cliff". He spoke in the language of facts, budget allocations, and committee work.

In stark contrast, Councilman Aaron Jones offered little more than empty rhetoric. Despite serving three years on the Tiffin City Council, Jones failed to highlight a single legislative accomplishment. When Representative Click directly challenged him to name one specific action he has taken to help the city of Tiffin during his tenure, Jones was unable to provide a concrete example of success.

The personal connection between the candidates and the students further highlighted this contrast. While Mr. Jones spent his time hanging out with the adults in the room, Representative Click actively engaged with the students before and after the event. He mingled with the Little Giants, listening to their concerns and answering their questions. The students clearly responded to his genuine approach, with many saying they would vote for him if they could, and even having fun chanting clever jingles about "Clicking with Click."

For the voters of the 88th District, the choice is clear. Representative Gary Click has proven he has the experience, the legislative record, and the genuine connection to his community to deliver results. Councilman Jones, after three years in office, has yet to show he can do anything at all.
